How Do You Cope With Disease When You Are So Far Away?
My Dear Lover,
Some days ago, there was a serious health problem in my family, my
brother had to be surgery at urgency or otherwise he could die.
Why I am telling you this?
Well for 2 reasons, first in that same week, a member of
http://www.distancelovinghelp.com, did write asking me
"How do I cope with illness when I am so far apart?", and the
second reason is to ask your for you help, to share with me, with
all the others members "How Do You Cope With Disease When You Are
So Far Away?"
My God, I more than know, what is the feeling of having our beloved
one sick, in the hospital, and not be able to be with
him, when he needs us the most. It really breaks ours hearts!!!
I have been there more than once, and all I wanted to do is to take
the first air plane, and go to take care of him. Above all, when he
is at work, he is very far away from his family, and when he goes
to the hospital, or every time he gets sick, there is nobody at all
to take care of him, he is completely alone! Nobody is there to
take care of him, to give the medication, nothing nothing...
Let me share with you, a little thing.
The day my brother was surgery, we could only be inside hospital,
until 19:00H, but the nurses were nice and let us stay there, until
the surgery end (after 22:00H), and I can tell you, you had to be
there to see the happy surprised face, when my brother did see us
there, so late, but waiting to see if he was ok.
And in that moment, I more than realize, that when my long distance
beloved is in the same kind of situation, I am not there! There is
nobody waiting for him, when he goes to the hospital, or to the
doctor!
How do I cope with that? Well at the very inside of me I don't!
But what I do is to communicate with him in a way that makes him
feel like I am "almost" there, and I also say to him that this is
not "right", that I should be with him there, when he needs me the
most, and when he starts to get a little better, I try to tease
him, like saying that he is a "baby" that he is always crying, and
things like that! ( but attention, I do this kind of tease
him, because I know that he does accept them very well, and he
loves it a lot!)
And I can tell you that in this last episode of the health problem
in my family, my long distance husband, although not here, the
support he did give me, was like if he was here with me.
